ICE London Speaker Dion Croom – Interview with the Expert
Dion Croom, CEO, Creative 3D Web Plc, and Chairman of Habet Addiction Healthcare dwells on his company’s activity, innovative developments and their application.
Tell us about your IC Creative 3D PLC, please.
The company was established about 4-5 years ago. Our vision statement is the ‘edge of freedom’ because the company deals in interacting with 3D technologies to create a better web experience. If we go back to the beginning of the web, there’s an eternal question: How do you create a link between a physical and virtual space. The web is a kind of matrix and you can’t touch it. Yet trillions of dollars are interacted on something you can’t touch. We are losing simple ways of interaction on the web. With the advent of mobile phones people think they are connected. But you’re actually not, you are actually talking to a piece of glass. You are no longer a part of the process. You have computers telling you your spending patterns. The whole view of creative 3D web is using the new creative technologies. Imagine the current way you interact with the web: you’ve got a mouse and make a click. But what if you can have the same mouse and move through the webspace? Take that ability to turn around and take any physical location. We can recreate this building. For instance, we can literally convert you into an avatar and you can walk through that space. We can have a virtual meeting with our avatars. So, we can take any flat website and turn it into 3D space. We call it ‘three browsers in one’: environmental browser, 3D search engine site is still the most powerful influence of impulse. The fact that I could be dropped in that environment – I trust that interaction because I see it, therefore, I can then touch it or interact with it versus someone telling me what I should be doing. For example, you have an e-commerce business. How do you know how many visitors you have? Google will tell you. Therefore, how do you know exactly? But in the virtual environment where you have 3D avatars by converting you into an avatar what we are saying to people is ‘Take control of your digital journey’. Because of the fact that I can walk inside of a 3D space, I can count how many people have come into my 3D store. And, of course, the 3D social network: I can come into your 3D space with my friends. With this technology we are targeting 5 key industries, including education and healthcare (treating various addictions, including ludomania). It’s virtual environment where you are anonymous, an avatar, and as you walk through that environment with elements of gamification, things that you are used to, you are able to say that you are anonymous but you can take supports from someone. We’ve interacted blockchain inside of the virtual layer and it also has biometrics as a security layer.
Could you tell us a bit more about biometrics?
Currently, we have passwords and now in the blockchain space we’ve got secret keys. You know what happens if you lose that key? You lose everything. So, imagine a platform for browsing the web that your first access is your thumb. It’s not just a snapshot of your fingerprint – there’s a unique element of this biometrics that not only locks me to the environment but into my wallet as well. Now you are your own KYC, your own GDPR, your own responsibility for your data by locking it with biometrics.
How do you specifically implement the blockchain?
The software in itself, we are already developing that. And then we heard about blockchain. We are adding the blockchain layer, making a real difference to our business model. Just the very nature of the blockchain does it. We brought the specialists that understand that. One of our key blockchain technologists has helped us as a company to understand why there was a need to put blockchain. Our aim is not just to grab money, we are going to do that with or without blockchain. But there are some functionalities of blockchain when added to this virtual 3D layer: you add a blockchain layer with the biometrics because we are a virtual world or a universe of virtual worlds. When companies go on our platform, for instance, we are building a 3D Vegas, 725 virtual locations. So, when each company comes to the environment, it has a piece of blockchain connected with that space. They don’t have to worry about building a blockchain, they already have a piece of ours when they rent a space, So, anyone can apply a blockchain just by being a part of it. One of the big features of us – we want to interact with other projects and IC or blockchain because we can bolt it together. If you imagine the virtual ADA where there’s a digital representation of a person, I can move across different blockchains underneath it though the security key – thumb. Like any business model we are looking at key areas – education, health, travel, entertainment and what we call the first 3D social network. A lot of people say it’s VR. Again, VR has its place, but I’m afraid of VR, of its elements, interaction…If you think you got addiction problem now. The total nature of VR – you are completely immersed in an environment and that’s potentially very dangerous. And the virtual 3D web is a browser.
Where is your company based?
We are based on the Isle of Man. We’ve been operating in this jurisdiction mainly because of our connection with government. With healthcare we need government input. You’ve got banks health care services linked with NHS in England with National Health Services. Now we are looking to move into North America with constant changes and reference to online gambling. They’ve got a problem when you are dealing with addiction. Our first use case model habit will tackle that problem. Just in the UK alone there are 593 thousand certified sufferers of gambling addiction. And those are just the certified.
Are you planning to expand in other markets?
Yes, we are. We’re looking at the expandability of what the virtual 3D web is. One of the key elements of the virtual 3D web is to be able to create virtual environments. But there are not enough game design people, so we have to create our own school. So, regarding expansion, we are building schools in different countries. One of the first locations for us is Serbia. We can train even people from off-street. When we create these training programs, all they got to do is pass and they got an instant job with us. Besides Serbia, it’s the US, and Asia because with our brand for Vegas we have 3D Vegas, 3D Euro Vegas and 3D Macau.
As mentioned earlier, the first smartphone based on the blockchain technology is going to appear on the market of Bangladesh.
